iAccess App

Accessibility Information Is an App Away

I love to try new places to eat and hang out with my friends. A common practice when my friends want to go somewhere new is for me to call wherever we are trying to go. I double-check the accessibility to see if I can even get inside. Sometimes Google Maps offers insight on disability access, but it's rare.

Even once I get confirmation that a place is accessible. It’s a toss-up that the person who answered the phone knew what I meant. I tend to use the bathroom at home before I go, in case the bathroom isn't accessible.

The iAccess Life app solves that problem. You can search for an establishment. The page on the app has a five-star rating system. The app page rates five categories. The accessibility of the entrance, the bathroom, the parking, and the interior. Then there's a section to write a review. It also contains the hours, address, directions (which links you to Google Maps). It also tells the distance from your current location.

The only pitfall I can see is that there aren't very many entries on the app right now. It will be a fun adventure when people can safely go out again to write reviews for all my usual places.

The app is available for free on both Apple and Android app stores.
