I have a dream, too. And it is not only that "one day [we] live in a nation where [black people (and all people of various ethnicities)] will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character", but also that we live in a nation where we will not be judged by how we look, no matter how deviant from the norm it appears. It is sad to think how our great former president, Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR), would've probably never have become president had he campaigned under the superficial and judgmental media of today, never mind being elected for four terms (a total of 12 years in the oval office). At the age of 39, FDR contracted polio (a virus that attacked his central nervous system and a virus I myself also contracted as a young toddler), which weakened the muscles in his legs so much that he lossed the ability to walk unencumbered for the rest of his life. As Eleanor Roosevelt said, “When it's better for everyone, it's better for everyone.” I hope to one day live in a country where woman and people of various disabilities can also be given a fair chance to serve their country.
