Baking at Baker Beach

Updated: Feb 24, 2022

Hello Readers! It’s been awhile since I’ve written a personal travel blog. I thought today was as good of a day as any to write about a destination I just came from earlier today, Baker Beach. It is a public beach on the peninsula of San Francisco. The beach is located in the northwest of San Francisco. There’s a beautiful of the Pacific Ocean there.

If you are traveling from downtown San Francisco, specifically Union Square area, the most affordable way to get there is by public transportation. Take bus 38R NOT regular 38 (the R stands for rapid because it does not stop nearly as frequently) and get off at Geary Blvd and 25 Avenue. Then turn an immediate right as you get out of the bus (DO NOT CROSS THE STREET) and then take bus 29 to Lincoln Blvd and Bowley Street. Once you get near the beach, the bus stop is on the side of the road so you will have to wheel down the road, turn right and there will two parking lots; one you will be able to see easily and the other one a little more down the hill. One parking lot is right as you go down the road and turn right and the other parking lot is down the street from the first one. Go to this second parking lot that is a bit further away because it has a boardwalk that is about 100 feet or so at the other end of the parking lot. There is a great view of the water throughout the whole stretch of the boardwalk.

Even though the boardwalk/wooden ramp does not go along the whole stretch of Baker Beach, I was still very grateful it was there. The view on the boardwalk is quite amazing. When I went earlier today, there was not very many people there. I was able to enjoy the sound of the waves and the beautiful blue water and golden sand without much human distraction.

Baker beach is a very nice break from downtown San Francisco where I am currently staying. The Union Square area has a high homeless population, is dense in population, there's traffic from a plethora of transportation options and it does not have the most pleasant smell. I felt cleansed of the downtown area from my trip to Baker Beach. And the bus ride is not terribly long either for the view and serenity you experience there. It is about a 45-minute bus ride and that was because I made the mistake of taking the regular bus 38 instead of accelerated bus 38R.
